Hypermotard vs Hypermotard EVO SP
The new Hypermotard 1100EVO SP brings new life to an already amazing bike. With added power and less weight the Evo SP make for a amzingly fun ride. Just the engine alone is 12 lbs lighter, much of the weight coming off the crankshaft assembly and magnesium engine covers. The slight drop in power in the low end RPM range on the SP is noticable over last years model but the stronger midrange and the boost up top is well worth it. We noticed the 2009 seems to wheelie easier from low RPM but we are not exactly stunters so remember both bikes pack a mean punch. The reduced weight is great when you get to tossing the SP around corners and controlling it when that front wheel lifts off. We included a picture of both the bikes to show the height difference which will give the SP a cornering clearance advantage that many 2009 Hypermotard customers needed at the track. The EVO SP feels more planted after jumping off the 2009 which is attributed to the Improved Marzocchi Fork and the Ohlins rear. It seemed even more planted than the 2009 HYM1100S which we did not have on hand for this morning's dyno session and test ride. Both bikes were a hoot.
